Take time to take a breath. Because, physically, I cannot always be practicing yoga at Lake Powell, a gorgeous, serene reservoir on the Colorado River, straddling the border between Utah and Arizona, where my family is all together and it feels a million miles away from responsibilities … Life can get pretty hectic at times. When my twins (a son and a daughter) were about 2 years old, and into everything, and my oldest son was about 9 years old, and playing multiple sports, I started doing something that I found to be calming, and more importantly, empowering. I taught myself to take a couple of conscious breaths between each activity. These days, I purposely take a deep breath at...
One morning last week, I found myself worrying about typical life challenges. I didn’t feel like going to yoga because I was distracted with my thoughts. I reminded myself that when I am disproportionately focusing on something, that can actually be the best time to practice yoga. So, I went, instead of cancelling, and I let myself not ruminate about the issues. When I was finished, I realized yoga had given me so much clarity and calmness. Fragrance recipes currently are considered trade secrets, so manufacturers are not required to disclose to consumers the chemicals used to make them. A long, complex list of chemicals typically is used to make the fragrance in most personal care and beauty products. Ekatala never uses fragrances. The distinctive, delicious scents in all Ekatala products come from organic essential oils. An essential oil is the distilled essence of a plant.
I came across an article on stress and anxiety being contagious. The new research, published in the journal Psychoneuroendocrinology, found that simply observing someone in a stressed state can elicit an empathetic stress response. I found it interesting. I’ve learned to surround myself with people who have positive energy. To be a good friend is to be a good listener and acknowledging their stresses without adding fuel to the fire. If stress is contagious, joy and happiness certainly must be, too!
I believe that we should all be thoughtful about what products we put on our bodies, because much of it is absorbed into our bodies. Hopefully, this kind of awareness will lead to balance and harmony. Over the last four years I’ve been developing a 100% natural and organic hair and body care collection that is truly free of harmful synthetic chemicals. I named it Ekatala, a Sanskrit word which means harmony. I use my Ekatala products every day and I love them. The results I see on myself and on my clients are amazing. It’s a new way of thinking about beauty.
